Abstract

For tax year 1998, a total of$1.7 billion in Iowa tax liability was reported on 1.8 million returns filed during 1999. The reported tax was based on $64.0 billion in Iowa adjusted gross income and $46.5 billion in net taxable income. This report provides a summary of data obtained from 1998 tax returns as well as review of the relevant features of the Iowa tax law. The report is organized in three major sections: An overview of Iowa income tax laws applicable to 1998 income. A statistical summary of information reported on 1998 returns including analysis of filing patterns. An appendix of statistical tables.
