Abstract
Then in early 1980, a national recession began taking its toll. By mid 1980, manufacturing employment registered a yearly decline of 1,800 workers while the total number of unemployed workers almost doubled the previous year tally. Nonmanufacturing employment registered a slight yearly increase, mostly on the strengths o f service and finance industries. Construction and trade also show heavy yearly worker losses.
