Abstract

The percentage of total tests administered to prioritized populations (regardless of race and ethnicity) decreased from 62% in 2017 to 58% in 2021, slightly above the 5-year average of 52%. The percentage of total tests administered to individuals who reported Hispanic/Latinx ethnicity (regardless of race) was stable at 11% in 2021 (compared to 11% in 2020 and a 5-year average of 11%). During the same time period, the percentage of total tests administered to individuals who identified as Black or African American (non-Hispanic) returned to pre pandemic levels, with 24% of all HIV tests being administered to this population in 2021 compared to 6% in 2020 and a five-year average of 21%. The proportion of newly diagnosed individuals living with HIV in Iowa identified through ITS program activities increased slightly to 24% of new diagnoses in 2021 (as compared to 21% in 2020 and a five- year average of 23%).
