Abstract
A revision of the previous report was deemed advisable regardless of whether the experience of 1940-45 indicated serious flaws in the long-time assumptions made earlier regarding fertility and mortality trends. Events peculiar to the war years have caused the population to change in size and composition in a somewhat different way than had been anticipated when the preceding estimates were prepared
