Abstract
Water trails signage includes all signs associated with wayfinding, navigation, and use information viewed from both on-land and on-water. Users should be able to drive to the water trail launches they seek, as well as understand their locations while on-water. Iowa’s water trails program provides the mechanism and the challenge to create seamless recreational experiences for users across jurisdictions. Locations on state-designated trails, therefore, are identified with river mile numbers, much like the Interstate Highway System.
