Abstract
Pollution—caused by inefficiencies in processes or the inefficient use of raw materials—is essentially waste. Properly discarding or processing waste is expensive. Pollution prevention (P2) begins with source reduction — reducing waste at its source before the waste is generated, rather than addressing it at the end of production.
