Breakthrough Soybean Lubricant for Railroads

 A manufacturing company in Waverly is using soybeans to make an innovative and environmentally friendly product for railroads. Environmental Lubricants Manufacturing is producing a biodegradable soybean oil-based grease as an alternative to petroleum-based grease for lubricating train rails to reduce the friction and wear on railcar wheels. The lubricant, called SoyTrak, is now in use on Norfolk Southern Railway.

 Life and health insurers in Iowa have just seen a one-quarter percent decrease in taxes, thanks to a bill Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack signed into law last year. It will significantly reduce Iowa’s insurance premium tax rate, making Iowa-based insurers more competitive with those in other states.
