Iowa Insurers Pledge
$60 Million for Venture Capital

 Venture capitalists in Iowa will soon reap the reward of a reduction in the state's insurance premium tax. Some of the state's largest insurers, under coordination of the Federation of Iowa Insurers, have made a $60 million, five-year commitment to fund start-ups as part of the agreement for the tax cut.

Growing Food Safety Demand Will Quadruple Employment at Iowa Irradiation Plant

 Consumer concern about food safety means increased business for a Sioux City food irradiation plant. SureBeam, America's largest food irradiator, expects its Sioux City plant to quadruple its workforce within a year. The largest of SureBeam's plants, the Sioux City facility has 12 full- and part-time employees. Thanks to the increasing volume of orders, that number will rise to 50 in the next year.

High Marks

 When it comes to the nation's top MBA programs, the University of Iowa (UI) consistently ranks among the best. The UI Henry B. Tippie School of Management's MBA program was recently ranked 35th among the 100 best full-time MBA programs offered worldwide in Economist magazine's new global ranking. The UI program placed 25th among MBA programs offered in the U.S.; Economist magazine also ranked it one as of the top 10 public U.S. universities.

Iowa Communities Enjoy Benefits of Booming Winnebago Business
 New Winnebago Industries manufacturing plants and partnerships are bringing economic growth to northern Iowa. Construction is underway on a new $12.5 million, 300-employee Winnebago Industries plant in Charles City. The 200,000-square-foot plant, expected to make a $28 million-per-year impact on the community, is the third Winnebago plant to be located in Charles City. When it opens next year, the plant will increase Winnebago's production by 30 percent. It will employ between 350 and 375 employees, which more than doubles the company's work force in Charles City.
