Personnel Updates
There have been several recent changes in Business Development. With Tom Grau’s appointment to Life Sciences Advisor, the previous duties of the Business Development Division Administrator will now be shared by three management staff. Ken Boyd is the Business Finance Manager, including Vallue-Added Agricultural Products Financial Assistance Program and Entrepreneurial Services. Mike Fastenau is now Business Assistance Manager, overseeing the Community College Training and the Business Assistance Team. Jeff Rossate remains Senior Business Development Manager, overseeing all sales and marketing staff, including International and the Human Resource Recruitment Consortium 
 
Cedar Falls A Great American Main Street Award Winner
In the last issue of IDED Quick News, Cedar Falls was inadvertently left off a list of Iowa Great American Main Street Award winners. Quick News apologizes to Cedar Falls for the error. Here is the complete list:

Charles City - Winnebago Receive PSFA Award
Charles City has been awarded $500,000 from the Iowa Department of Economic Development for construction of a new water tower to service the Winnebago Industries manufacturing expansion. The investment approved by IDED is from the federally funded Public Facilities Set-Aside program.
 
Floyd, Pocahontas Counties Receive Enterprise Zone Awards
New Enterprise Zones for Floyd County and Pocahontas County received approval from the Iowa Department of Economic Development Board which met July 18 at Iowa Lakes Community College in Spencer. A 12-acre area in southern Charles City and near Highway 14 was approved for Floyd County and will be used for housing development. For Pocahontas County, the board approved a 15-acre area in downtown Laurens that the community plans to market for industrial development.
 
Ankeny Deere Plant Gets NJIP Award
A $30 million master plan to upgrade and expand the Deere & Company plant in Ankeny has been approved for tax incentives under Iowa's New Jobs and Income Program (NJIP). The Iowa Department of Economic Development board meeting at Iowa Lakes Community College on July 18 approved Deere's lean manufacturing expansion, which will create 137 jobs at a median-starting wage of $15.03 per hour. The Ankeny plant, known as the John Deere Des Moines Works, manufactures cotton-harvesting equipment, tillage equipment and grain drills. Under a master plan, Deere wants to increase production by 33% at the Ankeny plant. Deere will invest $25 million in automation and new manufacturing equipment and $5 million in buildings.
 
Governor's Volunteer Award Dates, Sites
The ceremony sites and dates have been confirmed for this year's Governor's Volunteer Awards. There is no need to r.s.v.p. if you plan to attend -- there will be plenty of seating available.

IDED Broadens Fair Presence  
Planning is underway for several IDED activities at this year's Iowa State Fair, August 8-18. The Tourism Building will house booths for A Taste of Iowaź , the Tourism Office and IDED/Vision Iowa, and Main Street. One A Taste of Iowa company will be featured each day. Main Street communities will be highlighting their communities each day, as well.
 
For the first time, A Taste of Iowa room will be set aside in the Varied Industries Building for member companies to sell their products. The Human Resource Recruitment Consortium will also be there, in conjunction with the Iowa Workforce Development department's booth.

Farms, Food & The Future Conference

This is a one day conference for producers, processors and anyone wanting an inside look at the future of adding value to Iowa's commodities. A Taste of Iowaź at the Iowa State Fair

Product sales and food sampling opportunities will be offered to A Taste of Iowaź members during the 2002 Iowa State Fair. This year we will have an A Taste of Iowaź Room in the Varied Industries Building as well as a booth in the Tourism Building. A Taste of Iowaź will also have a display in the Family Center. Along with co-sponsoring The Best Bagger Contest with the Iowa Grocery Industry Association, A Taste of Iowaź will sponsor a recipe contest featuring A Taste of Iowaź products.
