CONCILIATION

Conciliation is a process offered to Respondents to obtain voluntary compliance with Chapter 601A, Code of Iowa. Contrary to staff investigators, conciliators negotiating probable cause cases are advocates for the Complainant who use various means of conference, conciliation an persuasion to redress the violation of the Iowa Civil Right Act.

In FY 1980, thirty-three (33) probable cause finding were issued, while twenty-five (25) probable cause case were successfully conciliated.

The conciliation inventory was reduced during FY 80 from a beginning total of forty-three (43) cases, to an ending total of thirty (30) cases.

Unsuccessful conciliation cases are considered by the Commission for public hearing.
