Abstract

The WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) is a Congressionally-authorized program designed both to provide resources in the form of fresh, nutritious, unprepared foods (fruits and vegetables) from farmers markets to women, infants, and children who are "nutritionally at risk" and to expand the awareness, use of and sales at farmers markets. This program is jointly funded by the State of Iowa and the United States Department of Agriculture—Food and Nutrition Service (USDA—FNS). It is administered by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) in cooperation with the Iowa Department of Public Health and the local WIC agencies that serve the recipients.
