Abstract
The plight of the juvenile offender with a substance abuse problem is addressed in this document. The Iowa Department of Substance Abuse has addressed the problem by assessing the nature and extent of substance abuse among youth who have come in contact with the juvenile justice system. Subsequent recommendations have been made for future programming and improved service delivery on the part of the substance abuse treatment and juvenile justice systems.
