Public Education

Citizens of Iowa have continued to make use of the many resources available from the Commission. The Commission's educational programs are designed to inform people about their rights under the law, and to inform businesses, landlords and other organizations of how to conduct their operations in accordance with the law.

Staff are available to conduct public speaking engagements, workshops, classes and other events. During this year, staff participated in 236 events, reaching 7,949 participants (media audiences not included). The majority of these events are requested by the entities, but some are training sessions mandated by settlement agreements.

New titles were added to the video lending library, for a total of about 60 educational videos. There were 2 11 uses of the video by staff and by citizen requests. Additional volumes were purchased for the print Diversity Library, for a total of 54 volumes. Both the videos and books are available for loan to the public.

A total of 4,474 information calls were received, and 58,500 items were distributed or mailed. Our website recorded 8,353 hits.
