The total value of backpay and settlements our commission obtained for complainants through successful conciliations, predetermination settlements and public hearings was $586,315. A portion of that amount represents annualized benefits. That is, in addition to a flat sum paid to a complainant retroactively, we also compute for purposes of the annual report, a projected amount of money that will accrue annually to the complainant as a result of his or her, reinstatement or promotion.
