IOWA CIVIL RIGHTS COMMISSION FINISHES MORTGAGE LENDING STUDY
The Iowa Civil Rights Commission (ICRC) has recently completed an 18-month
study of mortgage lending practices in eight of Iowa's largest cities (Cedar
Rapids, Council Bluffs, Davenport, Des Moines, Dubuque, Iowa City, Sioux
City, and Waterloo/Cedar Falls).
In the course of the study, funded by the U. S. Department of Housing
and Urban Development, the ICRC reviewed and analyzed mortgage lending activity
data, conducted hundreds of interviews, calculated community segregation
indices, conducted on-site race and national origin fair lending tests,
and reviewed and compared loan application case files.
The ICRC has scheduled meetings in each of the eight communities to share
the results of the study. The meetings, dates/times/locations listed below,
are open to the public.
