MEDIATORS FROM THE IOWA CIVIL RIGHTS COMMISSION RECEIVE VOLUNTEER HALL OF FAME AWARD
Mediators with the Iowa Civil Rights Commissions Volunteer Mediation Program were chosen as the Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame award winners from Polk County for 1998.
The Iowa Civil Rights Commissions Volunteer Mediation program has been in existence since 1993. Since that time, more than 80 volunteer mediators have donated their time and expertise to conduct mediations for the Iowa Civil Rights Commission and the people of Iowa.
Most of the volunteer mediators are attorneys, but not all. Some are full-time mediators, human resource managers, and administrative law judges. Over the past five years, these mediators have resolved more than 135 cases. "This results not only in the prompt resolution of these cases, but also means that the Iowa Civil Rights Commission is able to begin investigation on other cases months sooner," according to Dawn Peterson, the manager of the Volunteer Mediation Program.
The award will be presented by Governor Terry E. Branstad at the Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame Awards Luncheon to be held on Monday, November 23, at the Airport Holiday Inn in Des Moines.
